Here are my picks for spicy retellings of the classic Hades and Persephone myth.
Neon Gods by Katee Robert
Socialite Persephone is trapped in the political machinations of her controlling mother, after learning that she is promised to marry Zeus. Persephone rebels against her mother and strikes a bargain with Hades in an effort to escape her predestined future as the new Hera. One of my god-tier, desert island, death-row reads. The spice is exquisite and the characters are layered, complex, and surprising. Plus, puppies!
Maiden & the Unseen by Jeanette Rose & Alexis Run
When the gods decide to spice up their lives and attempt to integrate into mortal society, a lot can go wrong. Hades tries to maintain his firm grip on the assimilated gods, ensuring that they don’t cause irrevocable destruction on Earth but everything changes the day that Persephone barges into his office. A strong contender for spiciest read of 2022.

A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair
If you love big, dual POV series, then A Touch of Darkness and A Game of Fate should be on your TBR! ATOD is told from Persephone’s POV, while AGOF cover the same events but from Hades’s POV. Against her better judgement, and her mother’s warnings, Persephone is forced to create life in the Underworld after striking a bargain with Hades, God of the Dead, King of the Underworld and uber successful gambling magnate in the mortal world. ATOD is a piercing tale of forbidden love and personal discovery with a whole lot of spicy spice! Check out the author’s website for recommended reading order. Both series are unfinished and more books are due to be released next year.
The Hades Trials by Eliza Raine & Rose Wilson
Persephone is kidnapped by Zeus and forced to participate in a a set of trials, the winner of which will be crowned the Queen of the Underworld and betrothed to it’s king, Hades. These are short, fast-paced reads that are sure to scratch a spicy mythology -inspired itch.
The Hades Trials is a completed trilogy: The Power of Hades, The Passion of Hades, and The Promise of Hades.
